Barely a week old, the intoxicating stench of blood was Ayo Zuberi’s initiation to the harsh realities of the wild. Badly injured and clinging on a sliver of life, Ayo lay under a heap of leaves from the anarchy brought about by the senseless massacre of his troop at the hands of a group of poachers. Unable to move, Ayo witnessed the mutilation of his family as the poachers moved swiftly butchering the lifeless bodies surrounding him for bushmeat. At times the poachers would pause for laughter whilst taunting the remains in celebration of their glorious victory. Taken in by pity and nurtured back to life by another troop of gorillas, Ayo grew up grateful even if he was at times treated as an outcast by his new family.
Through the years, Ayo grew stronger as adjusting to the ever increasing threats surrounding his home from logging and poaching intensified. Staying alive meant constantly moving and remaining vigilant, for a momentary lapse in concentration meant the difference between life and death.
The coming of age for Ayo into a Silverback meant he had to leave his adopted family to start his own troop. Venturing further into the forest in search of a mate, Ayo finds Mbali. Living together in a moment of peace and harmony they are blessed with a son named Mosi. As Ayo, begins to put the horrors and unhappiness of his past behind, the forest continues to close in.
Time passes quickly and gorillas are forced to live closer together which makes the lives of poachers easier. Then one day, whilst out foraging for food, Ayo is wrenched back into reality as he catches the scent of a familiar stench. Gripped with intense emotions, Ayo explores cautiously to find his nightmares confirmed. In a small clearing, Ayo finds remnants of his adopted family in yet another mindless massacre.
Fearing for his own family, Ayo runs back to find his own family in danger as poachers emerge. Consumed by rage Ayo evolves into Ragingback to protect his family and to bring justice to his families past.
